An absolutely top notch indian restaurant. We are originally from England and have experienced some pretty fine indian cuisine. Curry Original is our go to restaurant we visit every year whilst vacationing in the Kingston area. I wont recomend any dish in particular as you cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Prices are very reasonable and service is polite and timely. I cant say enough good things about this place, and cant wait until summer vacations roll around so we can go back again.
This was a favourite date spot while my girlfriend was in Kingston. Would highly recommend.
The food is delicious and the atmosphere is really nice! A little pricey, but if you’re a student, you get 20% off on weekdays!
My husband had a lamb dish and asked for it to be a bit on the mild side, which they accommodated. I had the butter chicken, and we had rice and naan bread. The meal was absolutely phenomenal! He also brought us these delicious onion patties as an appetizer. Whether everyone starts with this, or it was a complimentary thing since it was out first visit, I do not know.
It’s a great Indian restaurant If you are Indian then ask for Indian spicy food taste or they will make very mild as most of their customers are locals and non-Indians.Very economical and very tasty food.
Absolutely loved my dinner here! Great food and service, well priced with an adorable location and ambience. Can’t wait to come back!
Most amazing Indian food place I visited in recent times. The ambience is wonderful and looks like a monument. Food taste is excellent and have wide alcohol options
It was recommended by friend and it was worth the drive!. Delicious food and good service. Highly recommended for on budget lunch!!.
Lunch specials.. need more sauce, need a dipping sauce for nan.. will be great.
Onion Bhaji and Samosas were delicious appetizers... I had Chicken Madras, and my wife had the Bombay Aloo... both portion sizes were decently sized and the food quality was top notch...I would definitely recommend
Just had a wonderful dinner at the Curry Original. Service was excellent, food was incredible outdoor patio very relaxing. One of the very few places in Kingston where you can get a bottle of wine for under $25,00 and entry’s under $20.00. Highly.recommended.
I’ve been eating here for years and years... impossible to beat the curries made at this restaurant... wow. Their Lamb Dhansak, Chicken Korma... the two greatest curries I’ve had in my life.
Great Indian restaurant in the heart of Kingston Downtown. Very friendly staff. Quick service. Staff is very attentive to your needs. Quality of the food is excellent. We had an organic vegetable biryani and tarka dall. Good size portions not very big, also not very small. The atmosphere inside is serene. Love this place.
I’ve tried every Indian food in all Indian restaurants located in Kingston but Curry origianl is the best.Great quality of food and authentic indian taste with bunch of spices and flavor. Staff is very polite and welcoming. Dining area is great and always cleaned. Their menu is not too big which is a great thing and they have specific items with next level of deliciousness. I just love this place and often visit here.
Authentic food. Beautiful atmosphere and patio
Our favorite in Kingston. The food is excellent, and the service has always been very good. I am surprised by the negative reviews regarding the table service. We have always been treated well, and one of the owners almost always comes over to the table to confirm everything is in order. This is one of our go-to places to entertain visitors.
The curries and naan were amazing, I had the Chicken Korma and my husband had a Tikka curry. The decor is also something to mention as it all looks hand painted. I really enjoyed the feast for the tummy and the eyes.
I wish I could rate a restaurant by food quality and service quality because the food was amazing but the service was so bad I might not ever return. We watched the table beside us get sat after us but have their order taken before us. Then the waiter told us he forgot us. Then we waited over an hour to get our food. The table that was sat after us was finished eating before we even got our food. They forgot an appetizer we ordered but then charged us for it. We never were offered a refill for our drinks. And through this whole ordeal was never given an apology. And the wait staff was miserable. Nobody spoke with any warmth or comfort it basically felt like "what do you want" "here you go" "get out"
We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed one of the best meals ever. We ordered 7 dishes from the menu and everything was outstanding. The food was fresh, well presented, and the service was excellent. We'll definitely be heading back to this cozy gem.
Giving 4 stars because the service was amazing and the atmosphere was very intimate. However, I think the portion sizes should be improved. The butter chicken has thinly sliced chicken pieces and for the price- I think it should have been more.
Far too overpriced for the portion sizes, and what you get in return. Charged $14 for a small portion of Chickpea Masala, AND an additional $3 for a small portion of rice.Came out to be $20+ with taxes and tip, for CHICKPEAS AND RICE. Place feels stingy, I'd much rather take my money to Wok In where I get way more food for less money.
Amazing food lil pricey but get what u pay for :)
So I was there at the restaurant and it was really disgusting the service was really bad. I really want to share my experience about tonight it was awful. So we had to wait for 15-20 minutes just to place an order and had to wait another 30 minutes to get the food ready and they were not nice at all they were serving Other people but we’re really rude with us. So after we had the food there was no electricity so we had to wait for another 15 minutes just to pay through our credit card. I would definitely not recommend this place as I paid $120 for really small portion of disgusting foodI would never go there ever again!
Everything tasted delicious. Loved the 20% off for pick up. We brought the food back home and had a wonderful picnic in bed. One small point to improve, the lamb dhansak could have included a bit more lamb. Staff are very friendly. This is my and my gfs go to place for Indian food.
We ate here with friends who go often. We could see why. The curries had deep, individual flavours and were much less greasy than you often find. The service was well-paced and mostly polite (one of the older guys was a bit abrupt). The servings are generous but not overwhelming. We shared 4 meat dishes, 2 vegetable dishes, 3 servings of rice and 3 Naans between 5 and finished most of it. Recommended
Cute Indian place that serves the authentic food. Their lentil, dansak are the best. Well run and clean places by friendly staff. The owner living in the city for than 22 years and knows fresh supply to make delicious food. Location is very convenient and close to downtown and waterfront areas. Always whenever we visit the city.
The food is fantastic, and well worth the price. I definitely recommend it and look forward to having it again.
Food and service is very good, will return.
The restaurant is slightly dated but the food more than makes up for that. Authentic tasty dishes and good portions
We have dined at Curry Original twice and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The menu is extensive and suitable for the vegetarian and vegan as well as the meat lover. Service is first class as is the food. Beautifully prepared and delicious. We look forward to our next visit whilst staying in Kingston. Great service, and atmosphere in the restaurant.
Somosa's are very bland - I'm assuming frozen. Onion bhaji is pretty good. Chicken jalfrezi was very oily and not very spicy. Aloo gobi was probably the highlight of the meal.
Best Indian food in Ontario, my friend calls it the Ferrari of Indian food! Went on a whim when we couldn't decide where to eat Saturday afternoon. The samoossa are big, fresh and crunchy, best Bhaji balls ever and the Lamb Dhamsak and butter chicken amazing, cant wait to go again to try other dishes. Ps just know the Dhamsak has got a bite to it, but is not burning off your face/lips/mouth hot
Our young waiter did not speak much English, and when my husband asked what was on tap, he looked at us confused and walked away. Right away an older gentlemen (maybe one of the owners) came right over to us smiling and proceeded to take care of us for the night. We said it was our first visit, and he made many recommendations, and spent lots of time with us going over all the different menu items to find something we would both enjoy.
Amazing place for authentic Indian food. The blend of their curries and the spices are perfect. The owner is always there to welcome you with a smile. My usual favourites are: Lamb briyani Lamb dhansak Eggplant Prawn tandoori Tadka daal Chicken kashmiri Mango lassi.
Good service great food, servings are on the small side.
Delicious food and atmosphere. Reasonable prices for large portions.
Worse service Ever!!! We are trying all Indian restaurants in Kingston. We planned to go here last Friday. The service guy was so rude he also even ripped the menu out of my hand before even asking me if i was ready to order. I have no idea why, it seems like there is a lot of discrimination! Although the food was good can’t complaint about it #international students.
Service was great, and so was lunch!
Ordered take-out on a whim. The shrimp tandoori, although not your typical red masala style, was wonderfully cooked. The raita was perfect and the sweet onions on the side was the icing on the cake. Great meal from a great restaurant! Ask them to make the food spicier if you can handle it👍
Delicious fresh authentic Indian food. Great service and price.
This is one of the best locations for friendly service and generous portions. The staff is very friendly and have gone out of there way for certain events to make sure I got the collectibles I wanted in the best condition! It all proves that there is more than just the food that makes a place worth going to.
Soooo gooood.. I love Indian food and they have great Indian food.. The atmosphere is terrific and the prices are very reasonable
The service and hospitality of the place is terrible. The guy who took my order was really rude. In the mid of my order he snatched the menu card from my hand. He didnt even said sorry and the food was so expensive . I ll not recommend this place at all.
Great place, close to the water with nice patios. Cheap drinks. We never had their food but I imagine it is amazing. Great service, Sam served us and was wonderful!
It was a lovely dinner here at Curry Original. I do think the place can flavour and season the food a little more strongly but I think that they are more receptive to spice preference of the community and crowd around them. The paneer jalfrezi was mentioned as extra spicy but I think it was moderately spicy. But it's a personal pallette preference. I had ordered the samosas, onion bhajji, panner jalfrezi, mixed vegetables and naans. I think it will add more to the spread if they add a mint chutney to onion bhajji and samosas as it needs a little kick! The portions were very generous and definitely you get what you pay for. The staff is sweet and courteous!
They donot even know how to talk with customers Very rude and. Food is so bad
Definitely recommend.
Horrible experience .. anybody who wants to have authentic Indian vegetarian food avoid this restaurant. We travelled from Ottawa to visit Kingston and decided to try this restaurant based on nice reviews. It was a complete disappointment.
Had the Lamb Madras over Palao Rice and it was absolutely amazing. The service was fantastic as well, my water glass was never under half full despite only having water for the duration of the meal. Staff were very quick to notice an empty plate and other cues. 5/5 stars. Will definitely be going back!
Really impressive flavours. I ordered the lamb Madras and was pleasantly surprised to find palao rice also on the menu. The lamb was quite tender and very well spiced. Excellent service.
